The Roofing Process
The steps required to properly replace a roof will vary slightly depending on the condition and type of roof being replaced, but most shingle roof replacements are made up of the following six basic steps.
1. TEAR OFFAll shingles and underlayment are removed to expose plywood decking.
2. PLYWOODAny warped or rotting plywood is replaced with new plywood.
3. LEAK BARRIERLeak barrier material (Ice & Water Shield) is applied to valleys and leak prone areas.
4. UNDERLAYMENTSheets of felt or synthetic underlayment are rolled down and nailed to the decking.
5. SHINGLESShingles are laid down and nailed in a specific pattern to ensure proper coverage.
6. CLEAN UPAll debris and trash are removed from the roof and exterior areas surrounding the house.
